Description
A hands-on production leader responsible for directing the daily workflow of the electronics assembly team, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring all work is completed on schedule and in full compliance with IPC workmanship standards, AS9100D quality requirements, and customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, and assign daily work across the assembly team to meet production schedules and on-time delivery targets
- Supervise and coordinate manufacturing activities including SMT, through-hole, hand solder, mechanical assembly, and cable/harness builds
- Monitor production output, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous improvement in efficiency, yield, and throughput
- Ensure all assemblies meet IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards
- Review and interpret bills of materials, assembly drawings, and work instructions; escalate discrepancies to Engineering
- Enforce adherence to all quality system procedures, including traveler documentation, first article inspection requirements, and nonconformance reporting
- Track and report quality metrics (defect rates, rework hours, first-pass yield) to the Quality department
- Support management with employee performance evaluations, coaching, and training development
- Maintain compliance with all safety protocols, ESD controls, and ITAR/export control requirements
- Perform hands-on assembly and soldering work as needed to support production demands
Requirements
- 5+ years of electronics assembly experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role
- Strong working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 inspection and acceptance criteria
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and written work instructions
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and hold a team accountable in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Familiarity with ESD handling procedures and shop floor safety practices
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC-A-610 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 CIS or CIT certification
- Experience with wave soldering, selective soldering, or reflow oven operations
- Exposure to AS9100D or ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Experience working in an ITAR-registered facility
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems for production scheduling and tracking
