Description

Experienced technician who independently performs precision hand soldering, assembly, and rework of electronic components across a range of product complexity levels. Works with minimal supervision, interprets technical drawings confidently, and serves as a resource for Level I technicians.


Responsibilities

  • Independently perform through-hole, surface mount, and fine-pitch hand soldering to IPC J-STD-001 Class 2 and Class 3 standards
  • Perform component-level rework and repair including removal and replacement of BGAs, QFPs, and other fine-pitch devices
  • Review and interpret complex bills of materials, assembly drawings, schematics, and engineering change orders with minimal guidance
  • Operate and maintain SMT rework stations, hot air systems, and preheaters
  • Perform in-process and final inspections on own work and peer work per IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria
  • Identify and disposition non-conforming materials per quality procedures; initiate non-conformance reports as needed
  • Support first article builds and prototype assemblies for new programs
  • Train and mentor Level I technicians on soldering techniques, workmanship standards, and ESD procedures
  • Operate wave solder equipment and perform touch-up soldering on wave-soldered assemblies
  • Report quality data to the quality department and participate in defect trend analysis
  • Suggest process improvements to increase quality, efficiency, or throughput
  • Maintain tools and equipment; report calibration needs and maintenance issues
  • Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electronics hand soldering and assembly
  • Working knowledge of IPC J-STD-001 soldering standards and IPC-A-610 inspection criteria
  • Proficiency with soldering irons, hot air rework stations, and SMT rework equipment
  • Ability to independently read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and bills of materials
  • Demonstrated rework capability on surface mount components including fine-pitch devices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Demonstrated ability to meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to mentor junior technicians

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC J-STD-001 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification
  • IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification
  • Experience with wave solder operation and setup
  • Experience working in an AS9100-certified environment
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 6S principles
